REORIENTXPRESS is a journey of dialogues with 90 designers and other actors of different backgrounds, cultures and disciplines, involved in the process of transformation of urban environments. It concretized in a series of video-interviews, subdivided in synthetic fragments.
The project is multi-focused as dialogues are centered on various specific topics that are crucial in the “urban age”, and they are outlined by dichotomies of concepts that usually reveal different approaches between Eastern and Western countries.
The organizers put them on the same level, in order to give new meanings and to envision a potential future.
Reorientxpress is the result of a 20000-km-long journey across 13 countries in South and East Asia (Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India, Hong Kong, China & Mongolia). It had a preliminary chapter in Java, Indonesia, in November 2014, but its official beginning date goes back to January 2015, in Singapore, while it ended in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in July 2015.
Through the collection of fragments and their conjuncted interpretation “a posteriori”, the project aims to give a more holistic view of the evolution of these areas. The creation of a “bigger picture”, in this critical moment for urban dynamics, claims a deep re-think of the role of designers and planners in the society, promoting a collective reflection on a transnational network of professionals and thinkers.
The goal of Reorientxpress is thus implementing an interdisciplinary debate about the changes propelled by globalization and by the increasing struggle for perpetual growth, at a turning point after the deconstruction of modernism.
