tgs LAB: OpenSourceDesign CNC woodworking

The Computer Numeric Control – CNC – is the automation of machine tools that are operated by precisely programmed commands encoded on a storage medium. A CNC system consists of a part program, a Machine Control Unit and a Machine tool (lathe, drill press, milling machine, etc).

There are many benefits deriving from the use of this technology, such as higher accuracy in manufacturing, short production time, reduced human error and greater manufacturing flexibility.

Using a CNC system for woodworking enables the creation of more complex shapes, as well as simplifying the entire process, allowing more people to take part in both the design and the making phases.
